Lobby & Events International Girls Day 2014: ‘Investing in girls: a good business!’

On International Girls Day Plan Nederland organized a successful conference ‘Investing in girls: a good business!’ to showcase our cooperation with companies on vocational training and job placements projects for girls and young women in developing countries.

ArenaDuring this conference the directors of Accenture, ASN Bank, AmsterdamArenA, Team Relocations, Basic Water Needs, TUI Nederland, AkzoNobel and JJH Textiles have agreed to work alongside Plan Nederland for the next three years in order to increase access to more ‘decent work’ for young women (ages 16-24) in developing countries, by signing the so-called ARENA Declaration. During the conference, a ninth company Jobbird (online recruitment) spontaneously agreed to also sign the Declaration.

For follow-up on this success and to monitor these, and future, corporate commitments Plan Nederland is further developing a company network, supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The aim of the network is to create synergy and maximize the economic impact for girls and young women in developing countries by strengthening forces, sharing knowledge and building on network opportunities.
